Very few people have ever encountered their own true 'will'. Our modern
culture does not value the 'will ' that resonates from within. Most of us
have had our 'will' distorted by years of conformity. Conformity to the
'will' of the majority, the 'will' of the family, the 'will' of another.
Many of us do not even know what it is that we ourselves value, and yet we
'will' ourselves to serve the values that are thrust upon us. We hurry to
please the 'will' of the boss, to obey the 'will' of the nation or state,
we are even 'willing' to die for a cause that we may not even understand,
let alone believe. It does not even occur to us to ask ourselves .... 'Is
this truly my 'will'? Do I honour and value that into which I am putting
all my sweat and blood? Is this what I know in my heart is right for me?
Is this how I would use my 'will' for the highest good for all?

It takes great courage to awaken ones own true 'will'. To plow the depth
within and root out what it is we love and then to bring all our 'will' to
bear, that we might serve it devotedly, no matter the cost. For once we
do, the world is changed forever. It is never the same. We are never again
free to follow the cultural values without being sure that they are one with
the values that rise from within. We are no longer swept along in a
current not of our own choosing, we are called upon to inquire, moment by
moment, and then to choose for ourselves. It takes tremendous strength and
commitment to follow the dictates of our own true knowing.

It takes 'will'.
