YEARNINGS OF THE HEART It is too often that the silent yearnings of the heart go unnoticed. Yet they are the very wind of Heaven breathing upon the shores of your own being. This is why it is good to set aside time, every day, to breathe the breath of your own spirit as it moves within you. For this breath is none other than the Divine seeking to commune with you, to embrace you, to speak to you. Do not stay aloof from your own yearning. For it is this very yearning that will guide you home. As surely as the bee is drawn toward the flower, by a hunger it cannot name, so the yearnings of your heart can be trusted to guide you to the place of greatest beauty and nourishment, the place to which, from the innocence of your childhood knowing, you have been destined to go.
Listen. There is a journey longing to be taken by you. There is a vision needing to be envisioned by you. There are dreams dreaming to be born through you, urges that can only be lived by you, passions that are hungry to be felt by you. For the desires of your heart are not creations for you alone. Oh no, they are the longing of life to complete itself. They are the passion of the divine seeking to be expressed. They are the voice of the ancestors demanding to be heard by you. When you choose not to live the life that you are called to live, you choose to leave unexpressed the hopes of all your relations and even the gods themselves. You are not a separate entity whose actions bear no importance to the life of others or to the fulfillment of creation itself. No, the dreams that you do not dream are lost to us all.
Whether you are a peasant living on the banks of the Nile River, or a ballerina dancing in the theatres of the world; whether you are a stock broker, a busimess man, a mother, a begger, a millionare, famous, or starving on the plains of Ethiopia. Whether you are a wise saddhu instructing your discples or an infant sucking her thumb, your duty is to live the life you have been given to live, fully and with gratitude.
