INTO THE VOID

by Ann Mortifee

Sing inme, oh Muse
And through me tell the story of that woman
Who's heart was ripe with hunger
And plump with passion
How she fell and rose and fell again
Through the myriad possibilities of grief
And rose-lipped pleasure

Tell of how she travelled to far off lands
In search of the goddess of love
And of how that goddess blessed her heart with agony
And with the succulent perfumes of wonder
Tell of how she fell from grace a thousand times
Only to be reborn more subtle and vibrant than before

Tell of how she was adored beyond compare
And of how she was spurned
Always knowing she would be reunited in the end
When the one became one once more

This is the story of one who loved
Of one who's heart was a blaze of 'yes'
A blaze of 'no'
And unafraid to leap once more into the void.
