Indlovu Bayette Ancient One

by Ann Mortifee

Ancient one, Mighty One

You who call the rains to come

You whose trumpet birthed all things

We need your ancient wisdom now

The truth you bring

Indlovu, Bayette, Bayette, Ancient One

Make my heart pure like yours

That I might find an ancient cure

To heal the lonely heart of Man

Who has forgotten he is one with all the land.

Indlovu, Bayette, Bayette, Ancient One

Night birds sing a warning song

A shot rings out, the deed is done

Indlovu screams, Indlovu falls

The Earth turns red the vultures come

Her tusks are gone

Indlovu, Bayette, Bayette, Ancient One
