THE GARDEN GATE

by Ann Mortifee

Come with me, be not afraid
Come with me, be not afraid
Come with me, be not afraid
Come into this moment

Go through the garden gate
When the dew has not yet touched the leaves
When the shadows creep
Down the mountain steep
Into the valley below

Follow the path
As it winds like a stream
Into the land of your dreams

There before you
Two pillars of light
Leading through shadow and haze
Leading you far far away
Far from the brightness of day

You enter a clearing
And there at the center

A bed of garlands is laid
You place your cheek against the flower
And drift so far away

All around you faces appear
of the one that you hold dear
And the look in their eyes
speak of loving tides
That will forever flow

All the hurts are put away
All the wrongs forgotten
All the blame is seen as blameless
Dissolving in the sun

All the fears that held you captive
Simply disappear
And voices soft as gossamer
Float upon the air

You hear the words of those you love
"Our love is always near"
You hear the angels singing sweetly
"We are always here"

You hear the earth, the shy, the sea
You hear the moon and sun
Whispering very softly
"All of us are One"

You see your life a budding rose
You smell its fragrance sweet
You touch the velvet petal folds
So perfect, so complete

You see the thorns as sentinels
That guard the nectars prize
And see that all your fears and doubts
In their way were wise

You see the soil where you have grown
Its richness and its lack
It's this that formed the paradox
That called you forth
And held you back

As guiltless as the sunset
As guiltless as the rose
Each flower of the garden
Is innocent and whole

You feel a breeze of jasmine
Brush against your skin
You feel the garlands under you
Pillowing

And there within the clearing
So beautiful: so still
You sense someone beside you
You know that you can't hide
Who you are
From the presence
Whose love
Has found you

You feel the mists of blessed release
Rise from deep within
You sense an ancient tenderness
Billowing

And wrapped around your heart
So delicate, so fine
Are all the threads that bind you
To all you've left behind
And all that there is yet to be
In the presence
Whose love
Has found you

Come with me, be not afraid Come with me, be not afraid Come with me, be not afraid Come into the moment

Safe you feel
Safe you are
In a clearing
On a bed Of garlands strewn about your head
In the land of dreams

There is the garden
There is the gate
You cannot arrive too early or late
You may pass when you will
And return as you wish
To the Presence
Whose love
Has found you
